The Will of Charles A. Sheldon, written in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts, on 9 Dec 1847

In The Name of God Amen!

I Charles A Sheldon of Deerfield in the County of Franklin & State of Massachusetts Yeoman, being weak in body but by the blessing of God, of sound disposing mind & memory, do make this my last will & testament, that is to say,

Imprimis. I give and bequeath to my brother James Selby(sp?) Shedon[sic] ~ one dollar

Secondly, I give and bequeath to my sisters Mary S. wife of Samuel Childs 2d and Martha Eliza, wife of Alonzo W Bates one dollar each – and to the children of my sister Climena, who married William J(sp?) Babcock I give and bequeath one dollar

Third I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Fanny Sheldon, all my household furniture, wearing apparel, and all the rest and residue of my personal property, after paying from the same the several legacies already named but if there should not be at my decease sufficient personal property to pay the above named legacies & all my just debts, then so much of my real estate shall be sold as will raise sufficient money to pay the same.

Fourth. I give and demise to my beloved wife Fanny, all my real estate. To her, her heirs and assigns forever

Fifth. I give and bequeath to my sister Harriet M. wife of Horace Arms one dollar.

Sixth. I ordain and appoint Fany[sic] Sheldon, by beloved wife as executrix of this my last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof, i have hereunto set my hand and seal, and publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in the presence of the witnesses as named below, the ninth day of December, in the year eighteen hundred and forty seven.

Signed, sealed, published and declared, by the said Charles A Sheldon, as and for his last Will and Testament in presence of us, who in this presence, and in the presence of each other, and at his request have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
