Can You Tell Me More about DNA Testing for Sheldons?2025-04-05T06:07:00-07:00

There is so much to say about DNA and how you can use it in your genealogy research on your Sheldon line.  We do have information on this site about DNA, and more information will likely be added. If you have specific questions about DNA testing and would like to speak to a member of the Sheldon Genealogy Team about it, consider joining one of our free weekly Zoom chats.  You will certainly get your questions answered, and don’t be surprised if you start to make friends with some distant Sheldon cousins.

My Sheldon ancestors are not in your family tree. How do I add them?2025-04-05T05:51:18-07:00

We do not allow direct additions to our family tree at this time. But we would like to add your Sheldons to the tree. Starting the process is easy – just go to our Submissions Page, fill out the form, submit it, and a member of our team will get back in touch with you.

What is it with the ducks on your site?2022-04-01T18:45:59-07:00

Why ducks?

There are two Sheldon coats of Arms both with three ducks. The duck symbolizes “resourceful.” We thought it the perfect symbol to emphasize our mission to provide Sheldon resources. The quote below, though interesting, is not accurate since the Sheldon of Beoley predates 1676. For more about the Sheldon Coat of Arms, see Kelly Wheaton’s blog post.

“The Sheldrake, often used in the Sheldon Coat of Arms as a heraldic charge, is believed to signify the ‘shield’ meaning of the Sheldon surname because of the shield-like band across the duck’s breast.

“It seems that the sheldrake was introduced into heraldry for the express purpose, or for the express pleasure of one Sheldon who was Mayor of London in 1676.”
